Tip 1: Air Travel...Take the first flight of the day. There is a better chance that it will be on time because it will not be affected by previous delays.

Tip 2: Purchasing Items while on vacation. If you're buying a bulky item which needs to be shipped home, an Oriental rug for example, take a picture while your still at the store so you have proof of what you purchased.

Tip 3: When traveling to foreign countries take along a portable battery powered smoke detector for your room. Many foreign accommodations lack adequate smoke and fire detectors.

Tip 4: Inspect your rental car in the lot before you leave. Check for any damage on the car, dents, cracked glass, torn upholstery, etc. If you don't report these you can be held responsible when you check the car in. Also make sure there is a jack and spare tire.

Tip 5: Don't advertise yourself as a tourist. If you're carrying expensive camera equipment or a laptop, pack them in nondescript bags so it is not obvious what you're carrying.
